University Challenge Fund

The University Challenge Seed Funds were set up with the support of the UK government and the Wellcome Trust in 1999. They were awarded to successful bidding universities to encourage early investment in technologies with commercial potential.

The Sulis Seedcorn Fund was one of the successful bidders and originally featured the Universities of Bath and Bristol. Southampton University joined Sulis in a second round of funding in 2002.

Sulis Seedcorn Fund had initial capital of £9m.

In August 2008 Sulis Seedcorn Fund split into two funds, Wyvern Seed Fund (featuring the universities of Bristol and Southampton) and the University of Bath

Wyvern Seed Fund continues to invest in spin out opportunities as part of the activities of the Wyvern Fund.
